A wholesaler specializing in high-quality ingredients with over 90 years of history
it is,
From the eel wholesale business
It has begun.
Nakasho Shoten has been in business for over 90 years, and its history began as an eel wholesaler. The discerning skills that have been passed down through the generations are not limited to eels and freshwater fish, and now, in its fourth generation, the company has expanded its business scope to include the wholesale of Wagyu beef, tuna, and game meat.
Rather than simply increasing the number of items we handle, we only handle products that we have obtained by having thorough conversations with the producers of each ingredient and sharing our passion with them.
Nakasho Shoten is proud to be able to deliver high-quality ingredients to everyone, both now and in the past, because we deliver them with the thoughts of these producers in mind.
Inheriting tradition,
Towards innovative initiatives.
This is a photo of the Unagiya restaurant built by the grandfather of Yuhei Kikukawa, the fourth-generation president of Nakasho Shoten, at its opening. This large sculpture stood along National Route 22, and those over 40 who are from the Tokai region may have fond memories of it.
Apparently, the cost of creating this giant eel sculpture, which moves up and down, was as much as building a house. This large scale and spirit of challenge has been passed down to the present day, and it continues to grow.

Nakasho Shoten's history is not just about traditional techniques

One of Nakasho Shoten's strengths is that, as part of the Nakasho Group, it also operates a restaurant business, allowing it to immediately grasp the reactions of customers who eat the ingredients directly.
In other words, when Nakasho Shoten starts selling a product, it has completed its marketing tests and is confident that the product will be well received and enjoyed by customers. Nakasho Shoten delivers products that make consumers smile.
We are expanding our business beyond eels, soft-shelled turtles, and freshwater fish.

In order to continue to carry on Japanese traditions, we are gradually increasing the number of items we handle. This is an industry where old customs remain and many aspects remain outdated, and some ingredients may disappear in the future.
At Nakasho Shoten, we use our discerning eye as a wholesaler to listen directly to producers and convey the opinions of consumers, while also taking on new challenges to keep up with the times.
